Just as in Christian societies where many people are named Christian, Christine, Kristin, etc., in Muslim societies some people are named Islam. In fact, I have a friend whose name is Islam. When he was a young man, Jesus put his mighty hand on him and called him to new life in Christ. Now he is a minister of the Gospel, full of the Spirit of the Lord, and very active in spreading the Gospel around the world.
This is a wonderful witness to the powerful work of the Holy Spirit in changing people’s lives. The fact that this minister of the Gospel has the name Islam is a witness to the power of the cross. May thousands of people named Islam, Muhammad, and Fatima raise banners of victory for Christ the Lord!
PRAYER
Lord God, when we come to you by faith in Jesus, you say to every one of us, “I have called you by name” (Isaiah 43:1). You call us your “children,” “beloved,” “chosen,” “blessed.”
Today, people are afraid of identity theft and spend lots of money to protect against it. But we praise you, Lord, because we know that no one can steal our identity in you.
I pray for Muslims. May millions of them heed your call, O Lord, and run to you to enter your Kingdom. May converts who have distinctive Islamic names not be ashamed of them as they serve Jesus. Rather, help them use such features as openers of meaningful talks with other Muslims to draw them to eternal life in Christ the Lord.
In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
