This week we pray for Muslims in the Central Asian Republics
Six countries that were part of the former Soviet Union have populations that consist of a Muslim majority. These are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. There are approximately 73 million Muslims in these countries.
After the collapse of the Soviet communist regime, these countries became more accessible to the work of the Gospel than when they were under the Soviet rule. Yet, that does not mean there is freedom to spread the Word of God. However, the situation is slowly changing, for which we praise the Lord.
PRAYER
O Lord God Almighty, I pray for the people groups in these countries. Help them know Jesus and experience his love. I pray for the religious leaders in these countries who try to manipulate people and keep them under the heavy hand of Islam. May Jesus enter their hearts and change their lives. May they be the first to experience the freedom of the Gospel of Christ.
I pray for government leaders who look favorably on Christians’ coming into their countries. May they also open their hearts to Jesus and crown him Lord and Sovereign over their lives. I pray for missionaries laboring in these areas, for Muslim converts, for churches and for the Bible schools. O God, send them an outpouring of your Holy Spirit. Strengthen people’s faith. Be their rest and solace. Help them lead many others to Christ.
PROMISE
Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed (Revelation 15:4, NIV).
