JANUARY 19, 2024

The Ahmadis are a small Muslim sect that came into existence in India in the 19th century. They believe that Jesus was crucified, but that he only fainted on the cross. They also say that when he was put in the grave, the spices revived him. He then got up and walked to Kashmir, India, and lived a long life there.

The Ahmadis are zealous missionaries who endeavor to convert others, especially Christians, to their sect. Orthodox Islam considers them heretics. Therefore, they are banned in most Muslim countries. In recent years many Ahmadis have been murdered by fundamentalist Muslims.

PRAYER

Majestic and Almighty Creator, you humbled yourself to be our Father and stooped down to be our Redeemer. I worship you. You alone are God. You alone are my Master.

I pray for the Ahmadis, O Lord. Convict them of their sin of rejecting Christ, the Eternal Son of God, the visible image of the invisible God, the only hope for humans. Show them that they are lost in sin and need Christ’s redemption and his free gift of justification by faith.

O God, cause the truth of your Word to shine out to the Ahmadis even while they study the Bible in order to refute Christianity. Father of Mercy, I pray that you will open their minds by the power of the cross. Reveal Christ to them in his love, mercy and grace. May they cry out to you and receive your free salvation.

Lord God, in past generations you allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways (Acts 14:16). But now I pray for the Ahmadis to know Jesus, the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

As they experience rejection by other Muslims, help them to see the arms of Jesus wide open to welcome them. Amen.

PROMISE

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them (Isaiah 41:17, NRSV).
