Working in Muslim Homes
Friday, September 1, 2023
In recent years, people in several Muslim countries have experienced excessive prosperity, due to petrodollars and other sources of income. The signs of such prosperity are palatial homes, extravagant cars, an abundance of domestic servants, and so forth.
Many well-to-do families have become extremely dependent on imported labor for their homes. Some maids and servants come from countries that have freedom or relative freedom for the Gospel, such as the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The Bible tells the story of a girl who was a captive Israelite working as a maid in the household of the chief of the armies of Aram. She witnessed to her master humbly, yet effectively, about the power of the true God. Her master was healed, and converted to worship the true God (II Kings 5:1-19).
It is estimated that there are two million Asian maids working in the Persian Gulf Arab states. Some of these domestic helpers are born-again Christians, and experience is proving they can be a great missionary force to witness powerfully with their lives and their words.
Prayer
O Shepherd of the humble and the poor, I bring to you these Christian maids and servants working in Muslim homes. Be their strength and shield, O Lord God! Protect them from the enemy who would try to defeat and destroy them.
Give them love and compassion for their employers. Help them to be honest and true. Fill them with your Spirit to live a life that honors the name of Jesus. Flood their souls with courage to proclaim the greatest story ever told and the liberating power of the cross.
Help them in those spiritually-barren lands to find viable Christian fellowships to feed them and help them grow and continue in their faithful service to you. In your precious name I pray.
Promise
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… I will strengthen them in the LORD and in his name they will walk (Isaiah 40: 29; Zechariah 10:12, NIV).
