In an effort to cope with the situations they face in life, most Muslims dabble with the underworld. Educated and uneducated, rich and poor are involved in folk beliefs and practices in one form or another. Examples include dealings with spirits and jinn, seeking the help of dead saints, and taking part in magic, casting spells, fortune-telling, sorcery, and witchcraft. Individuals use amulets, omens, and rosaries. They visit saints’ tombs and practice sand-reading and snake-charming.
People resort to these beliefs and practices to receive guidance, direction, and blessing, to inflict a curse, or exact revenge. Some Islamic religious leaders try to discourage such practices, yet their roots can be found in the Quran and in stories from the life of Muhammad.
Prayer
Almighty God, I pray for the people who are trapped in demonic practices. Set them free by the blood of the Lamb to receive new life in Christ. Let your peace and joy fill their hearts and chase away all fear and alarm. O victorious Savior, may these individuals be released from the grip of Satan, who manipulates them and drives them into experiences which can never satisfy their hungry hearts.
I pray that because of their openness to the supernatural they will turn to Jesus Christ, the all-powerful Savior and Lord, the loving, divine Physician, and the Friend who is there at all times. Fill them with the Holy Spirit. Manifest the gifts of the Spirit in their lives. Replace their fiddling with sorcery to prophesying by the Spirit of the Lord. Grant them visions from heaven.
I also intercede for believers who have come to you from Islam. Set them completely free, and make them more than conquerors so they will never again be tempted to resort to such detestable, abominable practices.
In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
Promise
This is what the LORD says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce” (Isaiah 49:25, NLT).
